Yemen’s Foreign Minister Outlines Peace Conditions, Demands Houthi Disarmament

(MENAFN) Yemen’s Foreign Minister Afrah al-Zouba has outlined five conditions for achieving peace in the country, stressing that the Houthis must give up their weapons and participate in the political process.

During an official visit to Türkiye, al-Zouba said a comprehensive settlement would also require restoring state institutions, preventing the group from carrying out what she described as terrorist activities in Yemen and the wider region, and implementing established peace agreements and frameworks.

These frameworks include UN Security Council Resolution 2216, the outcomes of Yemen’s National Dialogue Conference and the Gulf Cooperation Council initiative, she said in an interview.

Resolution 2216 calls on the Houthis to withdraw from territories they have taken control of, including the capital, Sanaa, surrender weapons seized from military and security institutions, and ensure humanitarian assistance can reach those in need.
