Wang Yi Meets with Special Advisor to the President of Brazil Celso Amorim

On September  16, 2026, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs Wang Yi met in Beijing with Special Advisor to the President of Brazil Celso Amorim.

Wang Yi conveyed President Xi Jinping’s warm greetings to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. He noted that under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, China-Brazil relations have achieved leapfrog development from a comprehensive strategic partnership to a community with a shared future in recent years. The relationship has grown more global, strategic and long-term-oriented, setting an example for unity and cooperation among major Global South countries. As the largest developing countries in the Eastern and Western Hemispheres respectively, China and Brazil need to strengthen strategic communication, deepen strategic cooperation, jointly bring more stability to a turbulent and fluid world, and make new contributions to humanity’s peace and development.

Wang Yi said that China appreciates Brazil’s decision to join the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization. China is ready to work with Brazil to advance AI for positive, for good, and for all and better benefit humanity. China and Brazil should keep deepening cooperation across diverse areas to draw on each other’s strengths for win-win outcomes and support each other’s development and rejuvenation. The two sides also need to enhance strategic coordination on major international and regional issues, remain on the side of international fairness and justice, jointly hold high the banner of multilateralism, and lead Global South countries in uniting for strength.

Celso Amorim conveyed the sincere greetings from President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to President Xi Jinping. He said that both China and Brazil are major Global South countries that can deliver tangible contributions to world peace and stability. Against the current turbulent and fluid international landscape, China-Brazil relations go far beyond the bilateral dimension and carry growing significance. The two sides should step up communication and coordination on multilateral platforms including the BRICS and jointly contribute to world peace and development. Brazil stands ready to work with China to deliver on the consensus between the two heads of state, advance practical cooperation in various fields, and continuously add new dimensions to the China-Brazil community with a shared future for a more just world and a more sustainable planet.

The two sides also had in-depth exchanges of views on the Ukraine crisis as well as the situations in Latin America and the Middle East.
