Prime Minister meets with World Jewish Congress delegation on preventing antisemitism

SLOVENIA, September 17 - The meeting took place in an open, sincere and constructive atmosphere, with the discussions focusing primarily on the worrying manifestations of antisemitism in Europe and around the world, the security of Jewish communities, and the importance of preserving and fostering Jewish life.

The Prime Minister stressed that Slovenia unequivocally condemns antisemitism in all its forms. He particularly emphasised the importance of preventing hate speech and threats, educating young people, preserving the memory of the Holocaust, and ensuring the conditions for Jewish communities to function safely and on an equal footing.

The discussion also highlighted that current conflicts and political disagreements must not become a pretext for stigmatising Jewish communities or for attributing collective responsibility to Jews.  Critical debate regarding the actions of individual states or governments must remain clearly distinct from antisemitism and hatred of Jews.

The participants expressed a mutual desire to further enhance the excellent cooperation between Slovenia and the World Jewish Congress, including through the exchange of good practices in preventing antisemitism, in education, preserving historical memory, and promoting interfaith dialogue.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the importance of Slovenia's small but significant Jewish community, which is an integral part of Slovenian society and its historical and cultural heritage. Slovenia also wishes to continue ensuring the conditions for its religious, cultural and educational activities and to remain open to its specific initiatives and needs.
