Parliament’s Presiding Officers brief media on readiness to host 69th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference, 14 Sept
Parliament’s Presiding Officers and the Chairperson of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) will brief the media on South Africa’s readiness to host the 69th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference (CPC), which is expected to host about 800 delegates in Cape Town.
The Speaker of the National Assembly, Ms Thoko Didiza, Chairperson of the National Council of Provinces, Ms Refilwe Mtshweni-Tsipane and the Chairperson of the CPA, Dr Christopher Kalila, will address the media at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC).
The briefing will outline South Africa’s preparations for the conference, its significance and the key political, governance and parliamentary issues expected to feature in discussions. The 69th CPC will take place from 13 to 19 September 2026 at the CTICC, bringing together Speakers, Members of Parliament, parliamentary officials and governance experts from the CPA’s nine geographical regions.
The conference theme is: “Strengthening International Law and Parliamentary Democracy in a Changing World Order: Commonwealth Leadership.” The CPC is one of the Commonwealth’s major parliamentary gatherings and provides a platform for legislators to exchange views on challenges facing parliamentary democracy and identify areas for greater cooperation.
