Deputy Minister Yusuf Cassim engages TUT on more than 300 NSFAS cases logged through the helpdesk

On Wednesday, 9 September 2026, Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Training, Mr Yusuf Cassim, MP, will visit Tshwane University of Technology (TUT), Pretoria West Campus, to engage with management and student leaders on NSFAS funding challenges reported through the Deputy Minister’s Helpdesk.

The Helpdesk received more than 300 self-reported cases from TUT students, mainly concerning defunding under the N+ rule, pending GAP investigations, dual registration, and data-sharing challenges between TUT’s financial aid office and NSFAS.

A special TUT file detailing affected students has been submitted to NSFAS for assessment.

The Deputy Minister will be joined by DHET and NSFAS officials to provide general feedback on some of the submitted cases and to strengthen coordination between TUT, NSFAS and the Department.

Members of the media are invited to attend as follows:

Date: Wednesday, 09 September 2026
Time: 09h00 - 12h30
