Deputy Minister Nomusa Dube-Ncube launches Higher Health’s First Comfort Room, 20 Aug

Deputy Minister Nomusa Dube-Ncube will on the 20th of August 2026 lead the launch of Higher Health’s First Comfort Room at Ekurhuleni TVET College, Springs Campus. Despite significant progress, many young people continue to experience challenges that are highly personal, stigmatised and difficult to speak about. 

These include mental health challenges, GBV, HIV, discrimination, social isolation and other psychosocial vulnerabilities. The Comfort Room represents a new vision for student wellbeing in the PSET sector: a physical space where education, peer support, early identification, referral and healing can come together. 

The launch of the Comfort Room represents more than the opening of a physical facility. It marks the introduction of a national vision for student wellbeing within the PSET sector. The initiative provides a practical mechanism through which institutions can bring together existing student support interventions in a visible, accessible and student-friendly environment. 

The launch provides an opportunity to demonstrate the model in practice and begin a national conversation about how similar spaces can be established. Following the launch of the Comfort Room, Deputy Minister will join in celebration of students who have completed the 1 Day Civic Education Programme.
