US Justice Department Accepts Ruling Halting “Anti-Weaponization” Fund
In a statement posted on the US social media platform X, the department said: “The Department of Justice disagrees strongly with the decision on the Anti-Weaponization Fund put forth by the United States District Court Judge in the Eastern District of Virginia.”
The program, which was designed to compensate individuals who claimed harm from alleged government “weaponization” and “lawfare,” was halted by US District Judge Leonie M. Brinkema, who ordered a pause on the distribution of funds.
The Justice Department defended the initiative, saying it was intended to be open to all eligible individuals regardless of political affiliation.
However, the proposal has drawn criticism from both sides of the political aisle in Congress.
Senate Majority Leader John Thune has indicated that the White House should drop the plan if lawmakers approve a broader budget reconciliation package.
