Philippines Senate Prolongs Deadline for VP Duterte in Impeachment Case
The original 10-day period for filing her formal answer was set to expire on Sunday, as noted by a media outlet.
In an advisory, Senate Secretary Jose Luis Montales said Duterte “may file her answer personally, through counsel, or through electronic mail.”
The impeachment complaint includes multiple allegations, such as misuse of public funds, unexplained wealth, bribery and corruption, and public threats.
Earlier this month, the lower house of the Philippine parliament impeached Duterte for the second time in two years, sending the case to the Senate for trial. The proceedings could lead either to her conviction or acquittal.
Despite the charges, Duterte, 47, remains a leading contender in early political discussions surrounding the 2028 presidential election, as stated by reports.
