Israeli Minister Says He Was Informed of Reported ICC Arrest Warrant Request
(MENAFN) Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich has stated that he was informed of an alleged international arrest warrant request involving him, reportedly linked to proceedings at the International Criminal Court (ICC), according to remarks cited in Israeli media.
At a press briefing, Smotrich said he had been notified that a confidential request for an arrest warrant had been submitted by the ICC prosecutor. He characterized the court in strongly critical terms and rejected the legitimacy of the move, describing it as politically motivated.
He further argued that such legal actions amount to external pressure aimed at influencing Israeli security policy, and he dismissed the allegations as biased. Smotrich also said that some European states exhibit double standards in their approach to Israel.
Reports in Israeli media have indicated that the ICC prosecutor may have sought sealed arrest warrants related to several Israeli officials, including both military and political figures, though details have not been publicly confirmed.
In separate remarks, Smotrich also referenced plans related to the evacuation of the Palestinian Bedouin community of Khan al-Ahmar in the occupied West Bank. The village, which is home to around 200 residents living in basic structures, has long been at the center of disputes involving proposed Israeli settlement expansion in the surrounding area.
The ICC has not issued a public confirmation regarding any warrants, and the situation remains based on reported statements and media accounts.
