Macron Calls for ‘Good Faith’ Talks with Iran
Following a phone conversation with Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian, Macron stressed in a public statement that dialogue remains the most effective way forward. He called on Tehran to engage in “negotiations in good faith in order to open a path toward de-escalation.”
He explained that such discussions should aim to “provide a framework to address the expectations of the international community regarding Iran’s nuclear and ballistic program, as well as its regional destabilizing activities.”
Macron also emphasized the urgency of stopping ongoing attacks across the region, underscoring “the absolute necessity of putting an end to the unacceptable attacks against countries in the region,” while highlighting the importance of safeguarding civilians and critical energy infrastructure.
In addition, he called on Iran to ensure the security of maritime routes, particularly the Strait of Hormuz, which is vital for global energy transport, amid rising concerns about disruptions linked to the conflict.
According to reports, hostilities have intensified since the United States and Israel launched sustained airstrikes on Iran on Feb. 28, resulting in more than 1,340 deaths, including then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
In response, Tehran has carried out repeated drone and missile attacks targeting Israel as well as Jordan, Iraq, and several Gulf states hosting US military facilities, leading to casualties, infrastructure damage, and disruptions to global markets and air travel.
