Zelenskyy Expresses Readiness to Meet Putin on Sensitive Peace Issues

(MENAFN) Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha stated Tuesday that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is prepared to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin to tackle the “most sensitive” aspects of a 20-point peace plan aimed at ending the nearly four-year conflict.

Speaking to a Ukrainian online outlet, Sybiha said that Ukraine is ready to sign the proposed peace plan, which has been under discussion since November of last year, provided an agreement can be reached. He noted that critical matters, including territorial disputes and the management of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, remain unresolved.

“It is precisely to resolve them that the president is ready to meet with Putin and discuss this,” Sybiha said, adding that he sees no need to engage with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, cautioning that “they should not create parallel tracks.”

Sybiha further explained, “There are negotiating teams that include representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. And creating additional tracks is not timely and unnecessary.”

On last week’s trilateral discussions in Abu Dhabi involving Russia, Ukraine, and the United States, he highlighted progress in negotiations, which prompted the meeting. He confirmed that bilateral talks also occurred there, describing the discussions as “very complex” and emphasizing that the conversations were “very focused.”
