Western fails to inflict ‘strategic defeat’ on Russia—Putin

(MENAFN) President Vladimir Putin stated Wednesday that attempts by Western nations to deliver a “strategic defeat” and fragment Russia have not succeeded. He made the remarks during a Council for Interethnic Relations meeting, which focused on national policy strategy and its implementation.

Putin warned that external actors are creating international organizations and “pseudo-national centers” as part of an “information war” against Russia. He said their tactics, including the “so-called decolonization of Russia,” aim at “the dismemberment of the Russian Federation and the infliction on us of that same notorious strategic defeat.”

He added that these efforts promote the concept of a “post-Russia,” a territory stripped of sovereignty and divided.

Provocations and attempts to create discord among Russian citizens must be addressed immediately, Putin said, noting that the instigators “usually operate from abroad” and are “supervised, financed, and directed by foreign intelligence services.” Their objective is “to undermine our unity.”

The president called for responses to external threats to be carried out “firmly, consistently, and systematically.” He highlighted that Russia’s opponents exploit everyday incidents, migration issues, and radical groups using “outright terrorist methods” to provoke tensions and conflicts.

“Such ideas,” Putin noted, “have been voiced in the West many times in different forms,” and despite centuries of failure, these attempts persist. He stressed that these threats should be incorporated into Russia’s updated national policy strategy and supported a proposal to declare 2026 the Year of the Unity of Russia’s Peoples.

The remarks came a day after Russians celebrated National Unity Day, which Putin described as a symbol of the nation’s enduring strength and cohesion.
