Putin’s aide says Moscow is ready for talks between Trump, Putin
When asked about a potential timeframe for the summit, Ushakov declined to provide details. “There is no timetable yet, but there is a fundamental readiness to hold a meeting if it is prepared by experts in advance,” he stated.
Pressed on whether such a meeting could take place before the end of the year, Ushakov said, “I don’t know,” but noted that the Putin-Trump summit in Alaska last August had been organized “very quickly.”
Earlier this month, Trump suggested holding another summit with Putin in Budapest, Hungary, with Moscow expressing its readiness to take part. However, the US leader called off the idea a few days later, saying it “didn’t feel like we were going to get to the place we have to get,” and instead urged an immediate halt to fighting along the front lines in Ukraine.
The comments marked a notable shift in Trump’s rhetoric, as he had previously pushed for a comprehensive peace agreement to end the conflict, a position aligned with Moscow’s calls for a lasting settlement rather than a short-term ceasefire.
Kiev and its Western allies continue to demand an immediate truce, while Moscow argues that such a move would only give Ukraine time to regroup its forces and secure more weapons from the West.
