Xi to discuss “positive outcomes” with Trump on Thursday

(MENAFN) Beijing announced on Wednesday that Chinese President Xi Jinping will hold talks with US President Donald Trump in South Korea on Thursday, signaling its intention to achieve “positive outcomes” from the high-level meeting.

According to a statement from China’s Foreign Ministry, the two leaders will engage in “an in-depth communication regarding major issues of strategic and long-term significant, as well as issues of mutual interest.”

“China stands ready to work with the US,” ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun told reporters in Beijing, emphasizing that the meeting aims at “positive outcomes of this meeting" and at “injecting new momentum into the development of China-US relations.”

Guo added that further details about the upcoming encounter will be released later.

The White House had earlier confirmed that the Xi-Trump meeting would take place on Oct. 30 in South Korea, coinciding with the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit.
