Trump Says Meeting with Putin “Didn’t Feel Right”
"We canceled the meeting with President Putin, it didn't feel right to me," Trump told journalists at the White House while appearing alongside NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.
The President elaborated further, noting, "It didn’t feel like we were going to get to the place we have to get, so I canceled it. But we’ll do it in the future."
He emphasized that the decision was based on his sense that the discussions were unlikely to yield meaningful results at this time.
Trump also voiced disappointment over the continued lack of advancement in talks aimed at bringing an end to the conflict in Ukraine.
"In terms of honesty, the only thing I can say is, every time I speak with Vladimir, I have good conversations, and then they don't go anywhere. They just don't go anywhere," he stated.
His comments followed the announcement by US officials of fresh sanctions targeting Russia’s two biggest oil companies, Rosneft and Lukoil, citing Moscow’s “lack of serious commitment” to achieving peace in Ukraine.
When questioned about the timing of these expanded sanctions, Trump responded, "I just felt it was time. We’ve waited a long time."
He described the measures as "tremendous" sanctions, signaling a tougher stance toward Russia amid the ongoing conflict.
