Putin, Orban Discuss Upcoming Russia-US Summit

(MENAFN) Russian President Vladimir Putin recently engaged in a phone conversation with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, as announced by Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov on Friday.

This dialogue precedes the anticipated summit between Putin and US President Donald Trump, which is planned to be held in Budapest.

According to the Kremlin’s press office, during the discussion, the Hungarian leader conveyed his readiness to offer all necessary arrangements for hosting the proposed Russia-US meeting in Hungary’s capital.

Putin shared details of his latest exchange with Trump, where they outlined a roadmap aimed at achieving a peaceful solution to the Ukraine crisis, emphasizing the intention to hold the summit in Budapest.

Orban confirmed the telephone conversation with Putin in a Facebook post, stating that the preparations for the summit are "in full swing."

Meanwhile, Peskov indicated that the gathering might occur within the next couple of weeks or possibly a bit later.

He also remarked that Hungary “commands the respect” of both Putin and Trump due to its “unique position in terms of its sovereignty and in defending its interests,” particularly as it remains a member of both NATO and the European Union.

The Thursday call between Putin and Trump marked their first communication in nearly two months.

Their previous meeting took place in mid-August in Alaska, where they addressed the Ukraine conflict and efforts to restore Russia-US relations, marking their first in-person meeting since 2019.
